His career's taken off like something out of Cape Canaveral. He's got a $300,000 nightclub contract for appearances in plush spots all over the country and he's got a movie contract with Paramount. But on his rocket ride to success, did Bobby leave his heart behind? First, it swept him away from Connie Francis, who got swept away herself, on her own rocket. Then he met a cute blonde singer, Jo Ann Campbell, and both of them fell hard. But he'd go off on a tour, and Jo Ann wouldn't hear from him for weeks and weeks. He'd come back, and ask her to marry him, and she'd say, "Some day. Not now." She loved him, but she knew it would be "the same old thing. He'd be off to Las Vegas, or some place, for months....."
Bobby went to Hollywood, and gave June Blair a friendship ring, and gave Judi Meredith a gold watch inscribed "To Judi--with love, Bobby"
But he couldn't get Jo Ann out of his heart. When he came back to New York they made up. Then Bobby had to go to London, and again, Jo Ann waved good-bye. "It's not his fault," she insists loyally. "It's nobody's fault." Then she adds wistfully, "I guess I wanted him to want me more than anything...."
Bobby says, "I think I'm on the go too much to get married. But I have slowed down, personally. I'm trying to understand myself, and what's happening to me. I have to do that before I marry, because I want my marriage to last. No mistakes for this boy! I feel I'm close to it now--real close."
He is--but that rocket he's on could carry him right past--fast.
